About Us

Herding for kinship, conservation, community, nourishment, craft, & resilience.

Bodega Pastures is a 1000 acre ranch located on Coast Miwok (Me-Wuk) territory, held in conservation by the Bodega Land Trust. The land is home to a historic community, our flock, guard donkeys, and many wild creatures.

Our sheep graze a vast expanse of pasture and coastal rangeland. We practice rotational grazing as a part of our initiative in regenerative land stewardship, moving the flock regularly in consideration of both the needs of the animals and the land they impact. They are supplemented with hay grown on our ridge spines and bottom fields.

We provide meat and wool products of the utmost integrity to our local community and are proud to steward this land in the process. As shepherds, we keep perspective on our role within the larger scheme of roles to play in caring for this unique place we call home. The dance of hooves and hands that shapes this landscape is dynamic, dependent on the feedback of interspecies relationships — often heeding to the pulse of the wild that curls around the fringes of our pastoral domesticity. Holistic, sustainable ranching is a priority. From the Bodega Land Trust website:

“Just inland from the beautiful Pacific coast in western Sonoma County is an agricultural and environmental jewel with its own unique watershed. The significance of conserving this working ranchland and its native grasses, riparian habitat, and spring-fed creeks cannot be overstated. Threatened steelhead and freshwater shrimp can still be found in the creeks; endangered Coho salmon are being restored to waterways where they have not been seen for a decade. The coastal prairie and grasslands are temporary home to migratory birds and water fowl, particularly with the proximity to critical nesting grounds near Bodega Bay.”
